My story
Healthy Habit Nutrition is a product of a passion that has been brewing for a long time. I struggled with my weight my whole life, trying anything from diet pills to extreme diets that only resulted in gaining and losing the same amount of weight over and over again. Leading to depression, loss of self-esteem, and just feeling like there is something wrong with me. As I was approaching menopause, things got even worse. I gained even more weight, I started getting joint pain, and my energy level was below zero at best. Every time I made an effort to start an exercise program to try to get in shape, I got injured. It felt like my health was declining quickly, and that my body was betraying me.
Throughout my life I have been reading new research about weight loss, and I did learn a lot. I thought I knew exactly what I should eat to be healthy, and how much I should eat to lose weight, but I couldn't do it. It was like I had split personalities where one side was super healthy and positive, and the other side was the "I don't give a damn, because I want cake now" personality.
What I didn't know then, was that most research is directed towards men. Women has a completely different hormone panel than men, and it does make a difference in our healthcare.
There was one thing I still hadn't tried, and that was intermittent fasting. I never thought that I would be able to go any amount of time without food, because I thought of myself as a "grazer", and for the longest time we have been told to eat often to keep our metabolism cranked up. But reading about intermittent fasting started to really pique my interest. One day at work one of our customers told me he had started intermittent fasting, and raved about how great he was feeling. He said I should try it. There was something in his voice that struck a chord inside me, and it was the straw to tip me over to deciding to give intermittent fasting a try.
Don't get me wrong. It wasn't rainbows and butterflies from day one. I fasted daily for over 6 months without much result. I did feel a little better, but I didn't lose any weight. Still, there was a part of me that knew that I only needed to tweak some things to make it happen, so I started digging deeper. I read about every study ever done on intermittent fasting, and I read every book written on the subject. I learned that what I ate during my feasting window had just as much, if not more to do with my success/lack of success, then how long I was fasting for. I learned how to use the different length fasts to perfect my body's metabolic switch, and most of all, I learned how to fast like a girl. Catering toward the right hormones at the right time.
So, when I started eating the right foods and combined it with the fasting schedule that suited my lifestyle and where I was in my hormonal cycle, I quickly started seeing results. In just 2 weeks I was down 15 pounds. I was feeling great, I had more energy than I can ever remember having, and my joint pain was gone. Since then, I have lost a total 25 pounds, and I feel so much better overall.
With a totally new outlook, and newfound energy levels, I feel that it is my obligation to help women that are in that same position that I was in. So here it is, a labor of love and passion. A platform to help women who are approaching or going through menopause, find their path to optimal health and wellness.
